Spray Painting

When wet painting, a paint optimized for polyamide is applied. A layer thickness of a few tenths is applied. A wide range of colors and special effects (e.g., “Glow in the Dark”) can be achieved with this post-processing method.

Painting at 3Faktur

The painting process is done externally by an industrial coating service provider. This leads to extended production times of 2 – 3 weeks. Preferably, Cerakote® paint is used for painting as it is optimally qualified for PA and TPU. Other paint systems (e.g., to reproduce certain RAL colors) can also be used upon request.

Functionality

In wet painting, liquid paint is sprayed onto the surface of the component. Prior to painting, the surface of the plastic is thoroughly cleaned to ensure a strong paint adhesion. In the process used by 3Faktur, a primer is generally not required as optimized paints for polyamide or TPU are used.

The applied paint forms a wet layer on the surface of the plastic, gradually self-leveling and drying to create a smooth and uniform surface. The drying time depends on the type of paint and the thickness of the applied layer.

Applications

Painting is recommended exclusively for visible components. Compared to dip dyeing, painting allows for a significantly greater variety of colors and even better color homogeneity and replicability. However, due to the high manual effort involved, the costs for this post-processing are considerably higher.

What is the layer thickness?

As a rule, the coating is applied in a manual process, so the layer thickness can vary. In the case of Cerakote coatings, no primer is necessary, so the layer thickness is in the order of a tenth, while for coating systems with a primer, it depends on the number of layers applied.

Are the components sanded?

Not in the standard process, but this can be done upon request.

Are RAL colors possible?

Yes, that is possible with other coating systems. Please specify the desired RAL color in your inquiry.
